Industries Baling Wire Direct serve

We provide quality wire products for any industry that needs them. Our customers mostly come from the following industries:

Recycling industry

Recycling industry

Recycling facilities across the US rely on us for baling plastics, foam, paper, cardboard, and other recyclables

Waste management sector

Waste management sector

Our baling wire is used in waste management to compact and bind waste materials, reducing their volume and making them easier to handle and transport

Vineyards and orchards

Vineyards and orchards

Our galvanized wire is ideal for vineyard trellis applications. Orchards use it as well for tree support and other purposes.

Our baler wire can be used to bale any type of materials, and works well in non-baling applications as well, such as construction, farm use, and more.

Do you sell cardboard baling wire?

Our black annealed wire is perfect for baling corrugated cardboard, as is our galvanized wire and our bale ties. Here are the benefits of our baling wire products for the cardboard recycling industry:

Space Management

Our wire is used to contain and compact cardboard, allowing for better management of space. This is particularly useful when cardboard needs to be stored or transported.

Safety

Our wire keeps the materials safe for reuse. While both baling and compacting reduce the volume of cardboard, only baling ensures the integrity of the materials for future use.

Cost-efficiency

Baling Wire Direct's baling wire is cost-efficient, providing a high-quality product at a competitive price.

Versatility

Our wire is versatile, compatible with many types of balers, and can be used for different sizes of cardboard.

Which finish is better: galvanized or annealed?

At first glance, it might seem like a simple comparison—but the truth is, galvanized and annealed finishes serve entirely different purposes. One offers protection against the elements, while the other transforms the way a material behaves under stress. Choosing the right one could make or break the success of your project. So how do you decide which finish is best for your specific needs?

  • The galvanization process coats wire with a protective zinc layer to withstand corrosion
  • The annealing process results in a soft wire for applications where ductility is paramount.

For outdoor applications, galvanized wire is best, as our Class 3 galvanization process lasts for 13 to 30 years on average. For indoor applications that demand a softer wire, black annealed is the preferred choice.

Class 1 vs Class 3 galvanization

We do Class 3 galvanization in an industry where many of our competitors settle for Class 1 galvanization. Here are the differences between Class 1 and Class 3 galvanization:

  • Class 1 galvanization: a basic zinc coating that uses only 0.28 ounces of zinc per square foot. While Class 1 galvanized wire is cheaper, it rusts within 2 – 11 years. In coastal areas, Class 1 coating fails even sooner due to saltwater corrosion. Class 3 galvanization: Baling Wire Direct exclusively uses a Class 3 zinc coating on all
  • Class 3 galvanization: Baling Wire Direct exclusively uses a Class 3 zinc coating on all galvanized wire products. With 0.80 ounces of zinc per square foot, this premium galvanization is nearly 3 times thicker than Class 1. The robust coating resists corrosion for a proven lifespan of 13-30 years. Class 3 stands up to the demands of heavy use, friction, moisture, and more. We stand behind our Class 3 wires with a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

What is our galvanizing process?

Our hot-dip galvanized wire is corrosion-resistant and durable. The galvanization process applies a protective coating of zinc to the steel wire. Zinc forms a protective oxide layer that acts as an extremely durable shield when exposed to the atmosphere.

Here is how our Class 3 hot-dip galvanizing process works:

Surface preparation

First, the wire is cleaned to remove any impurities from the surface of the metal. This is important for ensuring proper adhesion of the zinc coating.

Pickling

The wire is then immersed in an acid solution to remove any remaining oxides and scale. This process prepares the surface for galvanizing by creating a clean substrate.

Fluxing

The wire is then immersed in a flux solution (zinc ammonium chloride), which helps to prevent oxidation and promotes a uniform application of the zinc coating.

Galvanizing bath & Quenching

Next, the wire is dipped into molten zinc at around 450C (850F), coating it fully. It is then rapidly cooled in water or a quenching solution, solidifying the zinc layer and completing the galvanizing process.

Alloy formation

While immersed in the molten zinc, a metallurgical reaction occurs between the iron in the wire and the zinc, resulting in the formation of a series of zinc-iron alloy layers. These provide excellent adhesion properties and corrosion resistance.

Withdrawal

The wire is then slowly withdrawn from the zinc bath. The rate at which the withdrawal takes place is controlled to allow excess zinc to drain off and ensure the final product has an even coating.

Galvanizing process wire

Our Class 3 galvanizing process results in quality baling wire that is easy to use and durable.

After the wire is galvanized, we apply a coat of wax to the finished product. This creates a beautiful surface finish and also serves to further protect the wire. The surface finish ensures that the wire never leaves a mess and always feeds smoothly in automatic baling machines.

What is our annealing process?

Annealing is a heat treatment process used to make the wire more ductile and easier to work with. It involves heating the steel above its recrystallization temperature, allowing the internal structure to reset and relieve built-up stresses. The wire is held at this temperature for a period of time, then slowly cooled to ensure a softer, more flexible final product. This process improves the wire's formality and reduces the risk of cracking during bending or shaping.

How strong are your wire products?

Our high-tensile wire is the strongest of all our products, with a tensile strength of 145,000-175,000 psi (999.74-1206.58 MPa) and a load strength of 1256-1832 lbs. This wire is strong enough for the most demanding applications, such as high-pressure balers, high-tension electric fencing, and other extreme demands.

Our regular galvanized wire withstands 75,000-95,000 pounds per square inch and has a total load strength of 649—823 lbs.

Our black annealed wire has a tensile strength of 65,000-78,000 psi (448.21-537.79 MPa) and a load strength of 932-1118 lbs.

If you have any questions about wire needs, and which tensile strength is required for your specific application, feel free to reach out and talk to our experts. We’ll be happy to help you figure out which wire product is right for you.
