Baling Wire Direct Reviews

Single loop bale tie applications

Our manufacturing process delivers strong and reliable bale ties that can be used for many applications. Baling Wire Direct’s single loop bale ties are used to secure a variety of materials, including cardboard, paper, plastic, PET, aluminum, steel, and metal. Most commonly, they are used in the recycling and waste management industry to bale foam, fiber, clothing, and tires.

Unparalleled quality control

Our clients in the recycling industry and other sectors deserve the highest quality products. That s why we take all of the necessary steps to ensure our baler wire is created per the highest standards of quality and performance.

Baling Wire Direct controls every aspect of the production and distribution process, which allows us to deliver premium products at the best prices, with unparalleled customer service.

Some suppliers may manipulate things like wire gauge and weight in an attempt to cut corners, inflate shipping costs, and sweeten their bottom line, but BWD values transparency. Our dedication to quality control is unmatched, as we subject our products to meticulous testing to ensure they perform to the highest industry standards.

We carry out tensile testing on samples from every carrier, pushing them to their limit. Carriers with failed wires are immediately removed from our stock, ensuring only the strongest and most reliable carrier wire goes out to our customers.

Baling Wire Direct delivers a seamless purchasing experience with our Autoship™ system that keeps you informed every step of the way. Receive tracking information via email or text message. The entire process takes as little as 1-3 business days!

High quality single loop bale ties

Our galvanized and black annealed single loop bale ties are of the highest quality thanks to a manufacturing life cycle that leaves nothing to chance. The galvanizing and annealing processes are expertly conducted and adhere to rigorous protocols to ensure perfection every time.

Our annealing process

Baling Wire Direct’s black annealed baling wire products undergo a specialized heat treatment process that increases durability, ductility, and overall ease of use.

Recovery, recrystallization, and grain growth are the three carbon annealing cycles.

  1. Recovery: softens the wire through the removal of primarily linear defects called dislocations. Each strand, measuring exactly 0.135 inches, is heated with natural gas in a fluidized sand furnace.
  2. Recrystallization: deformed grains are replaced by a new set of defect-free grains that nucleate and grow until the original grains have been entirely consumed. This process occurs when the wire is heated above its recrystallization temperature (we heat our baling wire to 850 degrees Celsius).
  3. Grain growth: the microstructure continues to coarsen to reduce the material s total energy.

The annealing process creates a uniform atomic structure, increases ductility, and reduces brittleness. This creates wire that is durable and easy to use.

After the wire is annealed, we apply a coat of wax to the finished product for a beautiful surface finish that protects the wire. The surface finish ensures mess-free operation and smooth feeding in automatic baling machines.

Our galvanizing process

Our hot-dip galvanized wire is corrosion-resistant and durable to provide the longevity you need. The galvanization process applies a protective coating of zinc to the steel wire, which forms a protective oxide and acts as a highly durable shield.

The hot-dip galvanizing process is carried out in 7 steps:

  1. Surface preparation: first, the wire is cleaned to remove any impurities from the surface of the metal. This is important for ensuring proper adhesion of the zinc coating.
  2. Pickling: the wire is then immersed in an acid solution to remove any remaining oxides and scale. This process prepares the surface for galvanizing by creating a clean substrate.
  3. Fluxing: the wire is then immersed in a flux solution (zinc ammonium chloride), which helps to prevent oxidation and promotes a uniform application of the zinc coating.
  4. Galvanizing bath: next, the wire is dipped into a bath of molten zinc at a temperature of around 450°C (850°F).
  5. Alloy formation: while immersed in the molten zinc, a metallurgical reaction occurs between the iron in the wire and the zinc, resulting in the formation of a series of zinc-iron alloy layers. These provide excellent adhesion properties and corrosion resistance.
  6. Withdrawal: the wire is then slowly withdrawn from the zinc bath. The rate at which the withdrawal takes place is controlled to allow excess zinc to drain off and ensure the final product has an even coating.
  7. Quenching: the coated wire is then quenched in water or a quenching solution to cool it rapidly. This process solidifies the zinc coating and completes the galvanizing process.

The galvanizing process creates a corrosion-resistant coating that ensures maximum protection and lasts for decades.

After the wire is galvanized, we apply a coat of wax to the finished product. This creates a clean surface finish and also provides further protection. The surface finish ensures that the wire never leaves a mess of scrap metal and always feeds smoothly in automatic baling machines.

Class 1 vs. Class 3 galvanization

We offer both Class 1 and Class 3 galvanization. While Class 1 is more economical, Class 3 galvanization provides another level of protection and longevity, as it applies a thicker, longer-lasting zinc coating to the baling wire:

  • Class 1 galvanization: our class 1 galvanized wire undergoes a single treatment or “dip” of zinc to provide a basic, 0.28-ounce per square foot zinc coating. Class 1 galvanized wire is the most cost-effective option, but will typically rust in anywhere from 2–11 years, depending on the environment. In coastal areas, a Class 1 galvanized coating fails even sooner due to saltwater corrosion.
  • Class 3 galvanization: Baling Wire Direct also offers Class 3 galvanization on all of our galvanized wire products. With 0.80 ounces of zinc per square foot, this premium coating is nearly 3 times thicker than Class 1 and typically lasts for anywhere from 13-30 years before needing to be replaced. Class 3 galvanized wire stands up to the demands of extensive use, heavy friction, and extreme environmental conditions.
